Urban Oasis Unveils All-New Outdoor Restaurant Concept Serving New Continental Cuisine
WAIKIKI, H.I. (August 30, 2021) – The all new White Sands Hotel today announces the much-anticipated opening of its signature open-air restaurant and bar concept, Heyday, offering new continental cuisine inspired by Executive Chef Robynne Maii’s Hawaiian roots. A hidden gem that unabashedly celebrates the bamboo bar culture of the 1960’s and 70’s, White Sands Hotel, managed by Springboard Hospitality, has been entirely transformed with the completion of Heyday. From hanging swings around the bar to vintage cigarette machines that dispense local art – White Sands and Heyday is a hidden gem, offering a tucked away oasis created by an all-local team.

From the team behind the beloved Chinatown hotspot, Fête, Heyday, an open-air restaurant and bar, is Chef Robynne Maii’s second restaurant that serves farm-to-table, new continental cuisine with a throwback Hawaiian twist as an homage to Maii’s local heritage. The restaurant works with Maii’s network of farmers and purveyors in Oahu to serve authentically local cuisine. Signature dishes include Kauai Shrimp Toast flavored with tom yum sauce for pupus; French Onion Soup; Vegan Lumpia with papaya ketchup; Heyday House Salad with turmeric; and Steak Diane for entrées. For dessert, a signature Kewpie Chocolate Layered Cake is a must-try. The classically rooted craft cocktail bar serves refreshing and cheeky tropical libations such as Chef Robynne’s Mai’i Tai, a Fête 75, and the Ala Wai Seahorse.

The centerpiece of Heyday is a large, circular poolside bar with hanging chairs, that welcomes guests to swing, sip and swap stories as they enjoy stiff drinks crafted by several of Waikiki’s most popular mixologists. The restaurant and bar seats 70 and is entirely outdoors so guests can enjoy balmy Waikiki breezes.
From the moment guests enter through its bamboo lined entry, White Sands Hotel feels like stepping back in time to an era of playful hospitality, when Hawaii’s culture influences were felt around the world. The hotel’s 94 guestrooms and suites are centered around a courtyard pool with a cascading waterfall, grotto-style hot tub and lush gardens. The reimagination, although new, embodies vintage Hawaii vibes and offers guests an irreverent take on what it was like to work and play in Hawaii during the Jet Age. Designed for today’s thoroughly modern traveler, White Sands Hotel is now the most energy efficient hotel in Waikiki, generating almost all its energy from solar power.
